A small group of believers began meeting in the lounge room of a house in Millicent and on 8th March 1970, the Millicent Baptist Church was formally constituted with 21 foundation members with the pastor being Rev J Philip Ellidge. Ian Brown then became Pastor and was followed by Ian’s father, H. A. Brown. Rev John Follett then took on the role of Pastor and then John Horner. Don Groom commenced in 1994 and the church purchased a manse in 1996. After Don’s retirement in 2012, Rev Arthur Tzanakis led the church before relocating to Wallaroo. After a period of about two years with no pastor, Rev Malcolm Eberhard commenced ministry in a part-time temporary capacity until his move to Queensland. After a another period without a pastor, Simun Lalich became the Pastor for three years before moving on and currently (2026) the church is receiving excellent teaching from various sources.
The church initially met at its house property at 26 Ridge Terrace and then moved temporarily to the Senior Citizens’ Meeting Room. A worship centre and foyer attached to the existing house at the Ridge Street address was then constructed, and was opened in 1987 and remains our current house of worship.
Bible study and prayer has always been a priority and is on-going. The church has had a Sunday School, an after-school Kid’s Club, an Aged Care Ministry, a morning school holiday programme, and social and outreach activities. Carols in the Shearing Shed was a highlight for many years, and a Mainly Music programme was also conducted for a number of years. A Gardening Fellowship was also started. In the mid 1980’s a weekly craft group called Care and Share was started and continues to this day. Morning tea is a highlight at the craft group, and special pizza days and soup days are sometimes held. The craft group donate many of their creations (such as countless rugs, bonnets for premature babies, and small knitted toys, etc.) to various charities and groups with needs. Recently the church hosted a preserving event as part of the local Council’s Re-A-Range event.
The church has a “Ministry of Sharing” table where people can donate garden produce and other items for others who have need. The church actively supports missionaries and missions through prayer and financial giving.
The church is grateful to God for His faithful leading over the years and we give Him all the glory.
