Millicent Baptist Church Beliefs
The Church holds as its core beliefs the Foundational Values of the Baptist Churches of South Australia and the Northern Territory.
In addition, the Church declares its belief in the following:
The Holy Scripture (66 books) of the Old and New Testaments are accepted as the divinely inspired and infallible Word of God and stand as the absolute authority on all matters of faith, doctrine, and practice.
The Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is one God in three persons.
The divine sovereignty of God as Creator and Sustainer of the universe and who created the earth the universe, and everything in it in six literal days of 24 hours as God has recorded in the book of Genesis chapter one.
The deity and humanity of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ; his perfect life, atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension, and coming return.
That the atoning death of Jesus is needed as every person has sinned, and each person is a sinner by nature and has fallen short of the glory of God and can never achieve salvation from sins by one’s own efforts and deserves eternal separation from God in hell. God’s wrath against sin, however, was placed on Jesus Christ instead of us, who died on a cross in our place and this sacrifice was accepted as suitable punishment for all of mankind by God the Father and who now looks upon those who acknowledge Jesus as Lord as sinless (righteous) and whose names are written in Jesus’ Book of Life.
That salvation results in a person being born again by the Spirit of God and who becomes a new creation in a miraculous process carried out solely by God through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
The work of the Holy Spirit in convicting people of sin, leading to repentance and faith, and in regenerating, gifting, and empowering the Church for its mission in the world.
That God created man and woman in His own image, for the glory of God, and that men and women have complementary roles in marriage, the church, and society.
Salvation is from God alone, by grace alone, through Christ alone, by faith alone, for the glory of God alone.
The Lord Jesus Christ is the supreme Head and Ruler of His Universal Church, which is the worldwide body of believers who have repented of their sin and put their trust in him as Saviour and Lord. The two ordinances given to the Church are believer’s baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
Israel has a special place in God’s plan for the world and will one day be led to acknowledge Jesus as Lord in God’s timing.
That there will be seven years of severe tribulation for the world and that, at the end of the tribulation period, Jesus will physically return as a conquering King with His church and set up a 1000 year reign on earth where God’s remaining unfulfilled promises to Israel will be fulfilled. At the end of this time, Satan will be released and cast forever into a lake of fire.
That believer’s baptism is the appropriate discipleship response to the grace of God in Jesus Christ and that all believers should be encouraged to be baptised in accordance with the call of Jesus.
